Our Programs are Lesson Plans for Life

Step By Step Children’s Learning Center approaches each child’s learning experiences differently because children learn differently, so we work to customize their experience. Please review our programs below and contact us above with any questions.

Infants

Our infant program provides a stimulating and loving environment for babies to learn and grow. A child’s environment in their first year of life has proven to have a tremendous impact on their development. At Step by Step, we strive to create a nurturing atmosphere where infants not only feel comfortable and loved, but are also challenged to explore, learn and grow.

Supportive teachers help guide and prepare infants and parents through the first milestones of life: communicating, crawling, walking, etc.

Our three infant classrooms provide the foundation for your child’s learning experience here at Step by Step. Babies are consistently rotated through fun and educational activities designed to foster social, cognitive, gross and fine motor skills.

Our infant teachers use baby sign language to teach children how to communicate before verbal skills develop. Specials like weekly gym and music classes give babies more opportunities to explore the world around them.

Teachers work with parents to create schedules that work for each child and their developmental needs. We strive to help babies thrive and to make school feel like a home away from home.

Toddlers

In our toddler classrooms, children begin taking the first steps from infancy towards independence through newly honed communication and motor skills. Our toddler classrooms provide a safe and fun environment for children to explore and learn.

Each classroom is designed to meet the developmental needs during each stage of toddlerhood, and classrooms are equipped with age-appropriate toys and activities that will help your child thrive and grow.

Supportive and nurturing teachers help toddlers develop the skills that allow children to become independent. In these classrooms, your child will begin to use their words to express themselves, use utensils to eat independently, learn how to clean up after playing and eating, and develop the foundation for problem solving skills.

A weekly theme provides ample time for new learning opportunities and experiences in addition to daily practice with learning letters, numbers, shapes and colors. Teachers help children further develop communication skills through the use of sign language, age-appropriate books and interactive songs. Gross motor skills are fostered through play in our gym and playground facilities, while fine motor skills are honed with crafts, sensory play, and educational manipulatives and toys.

All children learn and develop at different paces, and teachers are happy to work with you to ensure your child will succeed.

Preschool

At Step by Step, our preschool classrooms help children further build on the skills honed in our earlier classrooms through both structured play-based learning centers and free play.

Children in our preschool program learn through both dedicated activities that fit the week’s theme and free play. A new theme each week not only exposes your child to new topics, but also provides ample opportunity for play-based learning. In addition to teacher-guided activities developed to reinforce the weekly theme, students are always practicing letters, numbers, colors and shapes.

All of our centers are designed to foster curious minds. Your child will be learning all day long, whether it is through role play activities in Housekeeping, using blocks to construct towers, or searching for items through sand or rice in a sensory center. Teachers support your child’s curiosity and will help guide children to problem-solve and make good decisions during play. As children move through our preschool classrooms, they begin to gain more independence.

Children are encouraged to choose classroom jobs to promote responsibility. Small incentives are used to promote making good decisions and to hold students accountable for their behavior throughout the day.

At Step by Step, teachers strive to know each child and family in order to set your child up for success in all areas of development. Teachers are happy to work with your child on milestones like potty training.

Pre-Kindergarten

Our Pre-K program gives students the foundational skills needed for kindergarten. A consistent schedule creates a routine that prepares children for the jump to kindergarten, while a supportive classroom environment helps students build the confidence necessary to thrive.

Our Seahorse classroom follows the Houghton Mifflin curriculum for phonics and math, in addition to the Step By Step weekly classroom themes. Age-appropriate learning centers and activities are designed to boost development in motor skills, musical awareness and rhythm, art and creative experiences, language development, social studies, and science. Phonics and math skills are not only taught through traditional lessons, but also through fun extension activities and centers. Students also begin learning Spanish, with a new lesson each week.

Seahorse students are encouraged to apply what they’ve learned through meaningful play-based learning activities. Teachers support students through play and provide encouragement, allowing them to build confidence and the skills necessary to work through problems independently.

Children who graduate from our Pre-K program are given the tools necessary to succeed in kindergarten. Teachers are happy to work with families to ensure that our program fits your child’s needs!

Before & After Care

Even after students have graduated from Step by Step, they are still welcome in our center before and after school. We have partnered with Sparks Elementary to provide students with a safe and fun before and after care program.

Our before and after care program was designed for parents who are seeking a safe, supportive and nurturing environment before and after school hours.

In the morning, students can catch the bus here at Step by Step after playing games or working on art projects with friends. After school, our teachers help students with homework before enjoying a healthy snack and free play in our gym facility.

Step by Step also provides care during elementary school holidays and early dismissal days.
